The VLA is a radiotelescope installation south of Socorro, New Mexico and has been featured in many movies such as Contact. I visited it twice in 2013 during the government shutdown: once shortly after the shutdown when all of the telescopes had been parked pointing at zenith (straight up), and a second time when the budget battle had been resolved and it was announced that operations were resuming but it would take over a week for all of the personnel to be recalled and the facility to be restarted. The telescopes were no longer pointing straight up as the wind had pushed them off zenith. These were shot with a Canon Eos T2i, an 18 megapixel camera. I hope to revisit soon and shoot them with my full-frame 6D.
